West: Bay Trail West

About this page

The Bay Trail when completed will run from the National Park at Point Nepean on the east side of Port Phillip Bay to the Werribee River in the west. The western section starts at the Yarra and follows the Bay to Williamstown and then south and west towards the Werribee River.

We are over the creek

2 February 2010. The Bay Trail West has jumped the Skeleton Creek over a new bridge at Melway 208 F7. (See right hand panel.)

The new Point Cook suburb is being developed as the photo shows. At the moment the path ends not far beyond the bridge  and at some stage the path will continue south through the Point Cook Coastal Park to the Point Cook Homestead.

Bay Trail West: New markers and maps installed

Aug 05 This fascinating part of Melbourne’s west is a surprise to many with its maritime history, coastal wetlands, and extensive views. To help navigate the trail, Hobsons Bay City Council has installed a series of trail markers and maps. Based on a nautical theme and constructed from recycled timbers, the panels on the markers tell stories of the natural and cultural history of the area. For a copy of the brochure map for the trail, call Council on 9932 1000 or visit our website at www.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au.

The trail is rideable from the Eel Trap Bridge over the Yarra in Docklands to Sanctuary Lakes on the Skeleton Creek.

Our aim is to connect it to the Point Cook Coastal Park and Parks Victoria historic homestead at Point Cook.

The trail can then be built south from the homestead and east from the new suburb being built at the mouth of the Werribee River.

Hobsons Bay Council calls the section from the Westgate Bridge to the bridge over Skeleton Creek in Altona Meadows the 'Hobsons Bay Coastal Trail'.
