North: Greensborough Bypass Path

In 2006 Vicroads completed the Greensborough Bypass between the Ring Road and Diamond Creek Rd. This connects up to the Ring Rd Path and will connect to the Main Yarra Trail via the Path being constructed along Greensborough Rd and the River Gum Walk path
Greensborough Rd path Stage One completed
Jun 08 VicRoads has virtually completed the path adjacent to Greensborough Rd, from Lower Plenty Rd north to Yallambie Rd. This is great news for riders in the area. You can see the new section indicated in orange (map, right). The path is rideable now with linemarking and Yallambie Rd signals to be installed in coming days.
In summary the path has been built to a high standard of 3 metre sawcut concrete. However there are a few elements which are concerning such as the crossing at the Army Barracks entryway and some of the lines of site and path alignment furth south due to existing trees and bus stop shelters.
We believe this path should be linked further north to the Bypass path, which would mean an array of paths in the north east of metro Melbourne are interconnected. We shall continue to consult with VicRoads and the City of Banyule to make this connection happen.
Bypass Path underway
2006 As part of this project a shared path was built proceeding from Diamond Creek Rd on the north side, across and under the newly duplicated Plenty River bridges and then continuing along the south side and following Greensborough Rd, where it meets the existing path at Kempston St which continues on to Grimshaw St.
Due to service vehicle access needs during the completion to the bridge surrounds, the path has been closed. The Bypass project office have informed us that the path will be open by March 16.
We look forward to this important link as it strives to connect to the path currently commencing construction along Greensborough Rd, adjacent to the Watsonia Army Barracks which is an extension of the River Gum trail taking you through to the Main Yarra Trail.
