About this page

The best way to find out what riders need in your municipality is to ask them!

Getting widespread or reprasentative feedback as to what riders in your area need can be hard. Public consultation processes can sometimes be poorly attended or not gather much input.

Who do we ask?

All too often we see council's reacting to one squeaky wheel which may lead to funds spent on projects that don't address the needs of a wider audience or encourage more people to consider riding. If you want more people to ride, you obviously need to listen to more people.

What do we ask?

This will depend upon a number of factors:

What do we need to know?

You should be able to get a clear direction of what riders' needs are.
The more individuals that you hear from the better, so consider utilising multiple avenues to get your message out. The local press, your council website, local bikeshops, BUGs, clubs, etc can all help.

Bicycle Victoria can also help because we can directly contact riders in your specific area very quickly and efficiently and encourage a far larger sample of community feedback than other methods will deliver. We often use these methods on specific campaigns or to keep up an ongoing 'conversation' with our members and also non-members. In this way we ensure we are meeting our members' needs and representing their concerns to local, state and federal governments and departments
