Time of Remembrance 2008

Time of Remembrance is a public memorial service and multi faith gathering for all those affected by injury or bereavement as a result of road trauma.

"So long as we live, they too shall live, for they are now a part of us, as we remember them."

17 November 2008. The Remembrance, in Queens Hall, Parliament House, was attended by the Minister for Roads and Ports Tim Pallas and the Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Minister for Corrections, Bob Cameron.

Speakers from the community, emergency services, legal profession, health profession, witnesses spoke to a hundred people gathered in the Queen's Hall of Parliament House.

People spoke of the pain of losing a family member and the long path of rehabilitation.

The Brunswick Women's Choir sang movingly concluding the Time of Remembrance with the song 'One Voice'.

Bicycle Victoria invites all Members and friends to attend.

This year the event and multi faith service will be at 12.30pm on Sunday 16 November 2008 in the 'Queens Hall' at Parliament House. (Cnr Spring and Bourke Streets).

This event honours the lives of all those who have died on the roads and provides an opportunity for people to acknowledge their grief.

Since 2001 Bicycle Victoria has joined with organisations such as the CFA, Epworth Hospital, Leaders of Faith Community Forum, Metropolitan Ambulance Service, Motorcycle Riders Association, Fire and Emergency Services, RACV, SES, TAC, Uniting Church Synod of Victoria and Tasmania,  Victorian Council of Churches and Victoria Police in the 'Time of Remembrance' - a Public Memorial Service to remember those who have died and those who continue to suffer the impacts on our community of road trauma.

The day is held on the third Sunday of November in line with the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly on 26 October 2005 to recognise the third Sunday in November of every year as the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, as an "appropriate acknowledgement for victims of road traffic crashes and their families". The Time of Remembrance is coordinated by the Road Trauma Support Team, a not for profit organisation that offers a free professional counselling service to anyone affected by road trauma.
