Tarralla Creek Trail now complete
17 Jun 08 The City of Maroondah advises that the Tarralla Creek Trail is now continuous from the Dandenong Creek Trail to the Croydon Town Centre. Pedestrian lights on Canterbury Road are operational and the works, completed in March, included widening the footpath on Canterbury Rd for it to become a shared path linking to the quiet local Bungalook Road East. The project was funded by VicRoads and Council. Directional signing has also been installed along the Tarralla Creek Trail which has been widened to give better access on a shared path to the Croydon Town Centre.
The section of Mullum Mullum Creek Trail from Acacia Crt to Ringwood Street in Ringwood to connect to the EastLink Trail has also been completed providing a continuous trail from the CBD to the Croydon area.
Council Snapshot for 07/08
Feb 08 We asked the City of Maroondah what they were doing for bikes. This is what they told us:
"Projects in the last few months that have connected several missing links and upgraded trails within Maroondah :
- Completion of the Dandenong Creek Trail from Colchester Road to Liverpool Road and Retarding Basin via Chandlers Lane, funded by Parks Victoria and Knox City Council
- Construction of pedestrian lights on Canterbury Road to link Tarralla Creek Trail to the Dandenong Creek Trail via Bungalook Road East funded by Vicroads and Council
- Construction of section of Mullum Mullum Creek Trail in Ringwood to connect to future EastLink Trail, providing a continuous trail from the CBD to Croydon, funded by Parks Victoria and Council. The section is only 250m (3m wide concrete) from Acacia Crt to Ringwood Street but connects from the end of the Eastlink constructed path to the existing Mullum Mullum Creek Trail through Ringwood.
- Upgrade of path through Croydon Park to shared use standard to connect Tarralla Creek Trail to Croydon Town Centre, funded by State Government and Council
- Upgrade of directional signage along all major trails scheduled to be completed by May
- New bike lanes on Norton Road (Leigh Rd to Mt Dandenong Rd), Croydon; Dorset Road (Dandenong Creek to Mt Dandenong Rd), Croydon; Bedford Road (Warrandyte Rd to Dublin Rd), Ringwood
- Updated Parks and Paths brochure/map with all bike routes."
Members and Friends who live in Maroondah can go to their personal home page and send a thank you to the Mayor!

Canterbury Road duplication: Bayswater Road to Dorset Road
Dec 05 Work is under way on the duplication of Canterbury Road between Bayswater Road and Dorset Road in Bayswater North. Unfortunately only wide kerbside lanes have been included with this design.
Bicycle Victoria lobbied for bicycle lanes on this section of road and are very disappointed with this outcome.
Bicycle Victoria would like to see a good quality shared path constructed to provide safe access for residents and workers to the retail facilities and industrial parks in this area.
Maroondah Bicycle Strategy
Oct 04 The Maroondah Bicycle Strategy was adopted at the Maroondah City Council meeting on Monday 4 October 2004.
In a press release dated 21/10/04 councillor Les Willmott said the the Maroondah Bicycle Strategy is a strategic document, which provides a list of action plans to promote and encourage cycling in Maroondah. Click here for more information.
Mt Dandenong Rd bike lanes
Aug 05 Funding has been announced to install 3.9km of bike lane along Mt Dandenong Rd in Ringwood East. The lanes will run between Whitehorse Rd and Wicklow Ave in Croydon (Melway 50 G4). They will provide a link to to Ringwood Lake and Eastland Shopping Centre. Work is expected to commence by early 2006.
Improvements for trails
Sep 04 Council has resealed sections of paths along the Tarralla Creek, Dandenong Creek and Ringwood Lake Trails and will carry out work to build up the edge of the paths to remove any lip when the weather is drier.
Council also plans to erect some directional signage from the Taralla Creek Trail to the Dandenong Creek Trail and new distance signage along the Trail in the near future.
Bicycle Victoria provided comment on Maroondah Council's draft bicycle strategy in April. Most of our recommendations were adopted in the revised draft strategy. Public comment on the strategy closed on 31 August 2004
