East: Dandenong Creek Trail

The Dandenong Creek Trail begins in Kilsyth (Melway Ref 65 G4) and continues 44 km south west through to Patterson Lakes (97 C7).

East: Yarra Trail (Gipps St to Walmer St)

The City of Yarra is investigating an alternative alignment of the Main Yarra trail which would involve continuing the trail on the Abbotsford side around the back of the CUB brewery eliminating the Gipps St steps and the steep climb on the Boroondara side of the river.

Inner: Capital City Trail

The Capital City Trail does a 30km loop around the inner city, passing by the MCG, Tennis Centre, Telstra Dome, Hockey Centre and Royal Park. It uses sections of the Main Yarra Trail, Merri Creek Trail, Moonee Ponds Creek Trail and Footscray Rd path. Sections of the Capital City Trail need upgrading to make it a more practical and attractive transport and recreation option.

A major part of inner Melbourne and the bicycle network with the Footscray Rd path and Moonooe Ponds Creek path feeding thousands of riders every day onto the Capital City Trail through Docklands to the CBD and the Main Yarra Trail

This will become one of the main east west commuter routes from Church St and Lennox St in Richmond to the CBD. As it develops it will attract riders off the Yarra trail at Gipps Street for a more direct route.

This bridge will remove a dozen steps from the Capital City Trail between the Moonee Ponds Creek and the Zoo, and allow riders to cross above a busy road. It will be a significant enhancement to the Trail which is used by commuters and recreational riders

Bicycle Victoria has been working with Transurban, VicRoads and the Monash Alliance to minimise the impact of Monash-CityLink-West Gate Upgrade project on riders.

North: Craigieburn Bypass Path

North: Darebin Creek Trail

The Darebin Creek runs from the north of Melbourne to the Ring Road in Bundoora (outer section). From there it flows south past La Trobe University to join the Yarra in Alphington (inner section).

North: Greensborough Bypass Path

In 2006 Vicroads completed the Greensborough Bypass between the Ring Road and Diamond Creek Rd. This connects up to the Ring Rd Path and will connect to the Main Yarra Trail via the Path being constructed along Greensborough Rd and the River Gum Walk path

North: Merri Creek Trail

The Merri Creek Trail commences at Dights Falls where it joins the Main Yarra Trail (Melway 44 F3) and follows the Merri Creek to Moomba Park where it joins the Western Ring Rd path (Melway 7 J11). It is approximately 25km in length.

West: Bay Trail West

The Bay Trail West (Hobsons Bay Coastal Trail) runs for 23km, mostly off-road, from the Westgate Bridge in Spotswood to Skeleton Creek in Altona Meadows, where it joins the Skeleton Creek Trail.

West: Federation Trail

The campaign focus is now on the section east from Millers Road to the Yarra in Spotswood.

West: Kororoit Creek Path

A key link in the west runs between the Western Ring Rd path and the Bay Trail. Two major gaps are holding back local commuter and recreational riding in the area. The gap north of the Federation Trail is now funded but the southern gap towards the Bay Trail is disrupting what should be a great circuit.

West: Maribyrnong River Trail - updates

The trail starts outside Scienceworks in Spotswood (where it intersects with Bay Trail West) and follows the Maribyrnong River north to Brimbank Park in Keilor.

Changed conditions

Nike 10k race in City precinct on 31 Aug

Some 10,000 participants will contest the Nike Human Race on Sunday, August 31, causing a number of road closures and diversions close to the City.

The assembly area is at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl and the run will start on Alexandra Avenue near the Swan St Bridge, with the finish near the King George Monument adjacent to Bowl.

The following road closures are proposed from 4am to 12 noon:
- Alexandra Ave (Swan St to Punt Rd)
- Anderson St
- Domain Rd (eastbound only between Birdwood Ave & Anderson St)
- Birdwood Ave
- Linlithgow Ave
- St. Kilda Rd (Anzac Ave to Flinders St)
- Dallas Brooks Drv
- Government House Drv
- Collins St (Russell to Spring St)
- Russell St (Flinders St to Collins St)
- Batman Avenue

Spring Into Shape Runs: Sept-Oct-Nov

 

Some disruption can be expected at a series of three runs along the Yarra on Sunday mornings in the coming months.

The 8k and 4k events could have up to 2000 participants and will require the closure of Boathouse Drive from 8.30 to 12.00 on the following dates:

Sunday 14 Setember; Sunday 26 october; Sunday 23 November.
