Museum Sells Bike Collection — 500 To Go

Buy a museum

5 June 08. The massive bike collection of the Canberra Bicycle Museum is up for sale as a complete collection. Comprising more than 500 items of historical, social and engineering interest, the collection is being culled as the museum reinvents itself as the Australian Bicycle History Centre.

Taking a new direction, the Centre will concentrate on its holdings of memorabilia and documentary resources, with a focus on research. These materials are available on-line.

Expressions of interest are invited for the purchase of the complete collection. Closing date is 31 October 2008.

The collection was assembled over decades and is of international renown.

It is envisaged that the collection would be acquired as a complete offering, by a Government or semi-government body or trust, with adequate resources to allow for a significant part of the collection be available for display to the public, for historical, research, education, tourism and other appropriate purpose.

A catalogue of the collection is available at the Centre’s website.

Beware, the file is huge.
