Rail trails are multi-use trails converted from disused railway lines.
A few basics will help you ride more safely on Victoria's rail trails.
Much of the etiquette that applies on other places to ride also applies on rail trails. Once on a rail trail, however, you are more likely to meet a horse. Avoid coming up fast behind them as this may frighten them into unpredictable behaviour. Allow a wide birth and pass slowly.
Other points of etiquette noted in rail trails of Victoria include:
- Keeping to the track
- Carrying rubbish home
- Leaving all gates as you find them
- Moving quietly near stock
- Parking in designated areas and avoid blocking access roads and tracks
- Observing local fire restrictions
- Observing the individual codes of conduct signage displayed on various tracks.
