Workplace Bicycle User Groups

About this page

Starting a Workplace BUG or Bicycle User Group is a great way to help lift the profile of cycling. There are now 215 Workplace BUGs and the list is growing every day (see list to the right of this screen). Registration is open to all Workplace BUGs around Australia.

Register your BUG

Maybe you already have an email list or corporate cycling team but you’ve never called your group a BUG before. We encourage you to register your new BUG today. It only takes two minutes and there is no cost involved to join the growing list of Workplace BUGs.

By making your BUG known to Bicycle Victoria we can make resources available to you.

Congratulations to the World Vision of Australia BUG for winning the Workplace BUGs competition!

Some things your BUG can do

Ride to Work Another Day

Perhaps you'd like to organise a Ride to Work Another Day breakfast or morning tea as preparation for National Ride to Work Day. What a great opportunity for those who weren't quite ready for last year's event, those that want to get back into the habit... or those who want to get fit for summer. It's also a good way to get to know the regular cyclists in your workplace and chat about other things your BUG could do.

Presentation for new riders

Have you thought of running a lunchtime workshop for new riders to help them take the first step? Here's a PowerPoint presentation that you might find useful. We suggest that you use this as part of the lead-up to a Ride to Work Another Day event or this year's National Ride to Work Day.

This 20-min presentation (2008 edition) works well alongside the Everything you wanted to know about riding to work...but were afraid to ask flyer supplied as part of the National Ride to Work Day promotional kit. It could be just the resource you need!

In order to place it on the website we've compressed the original PowerPoint file and converted it into a pdf. If you'd like us to email the original 6 MB PowerPoint so that you can modify it to suit your needs, please email rtw@bv.com.au

You can also order copies of the flyer to hand out at your presentation.

Conduct a bike parking audit

Would you like more bike parking facilities in your workplace. We've designed a new form to get you started.

Workshops

Workshops are a great way to share tips, answer questions and start discussions. Organising a workshop is a great excuse to get cyclists in your workplace together. Invite a guest speaker or somebody from your local bike shop to share their cycling knowledge.

By publicising your workshop to everybody in your workplace you may even pick up a few new members, or people who would like to start cycling.

As part of its annual winter ‘Light up!’ campaign Bicycle Victoria encourages all workplace organisers and BUGs to make sure that everybody in their workplace is riding at night with the right amount of light on their bikes.

We have put together an information sheet that can be used as a guide to running a lighting workshop in your workplace (see right). This is only a guide; you may have even better ideas than ours. Tips from this information sheet can be used in running workshops on other topics.

Starting planning your part in National Ride to Work Day, 15 October 2008
