Help a refugee get a bike
The Red Cross bike program is part of the Red Cross Household Goods program. People donate their bikes to the Red Cross, where volunteer bike mechanics fix them before they are passed on to refugees and asylum seekers. Red Cross is looking for bike mechanics to help with this community-building initiative - see flyer for details.

Fun Ride for peace and against the nuclear cycle - 1 April 2007
Palm Sunday is the traditional day for peace and anti-nuclear events, and this year we are inviting people and groups to ride to the events. This year Palm Sunday falls on April Fools Day – Sunday 1st April - so we are using the theme “Nuclear Fool Cycle”.
We invite you to join and support us by cycling together to the Treasury Gardens in Melbourne (Melway ref: 2F K4). You may consider decorating your bikes with “nuclear fool cycle” themes.

Biking4Bikes - A ten month journey from Addis Ababa in Ethopia to Cape Town in South Africa, starting on 27 December 2006.
Christine and Ross Hopkins are undertaking an amazing 12,500km journey by bicycle to raise money for two charities in Africa which provide bicycles for needy communities. Their chosen charities are:
- BEN (Namibia) which provides bicycles for health care workers supporting people affected by HIV/AIDS. Without bicycles, these workers have to walk to their patients.
- The Tumaini Cycles Program (located in Arusha, Tanzania), which provides vocational training for young people orphaned by HIV/AIDS in bicycle maintenance and repair, business education as well as providing valuable employment opportunities.
If you can help or wish to donate to their chosen charities, visit their website. All money donated will go directly to the charities.
If you would like to receive regular updates from their trip, go to their website to subscribe to their newsletter. Bicycle Victoria wishes Christine and Ross all the best.
