2007- Visit a Rail Trail and help fire affected communities.

While bushfires are still burning across Victoria, most of the Rail Trails and businesses in the regions affected are open for business.

Fires have largely moved away from the areas near the High Country and Murray to Mountains Rail Trails. The threat in Gippsland near the East Gippsland Rail Trail has subsided although this area in particular will require the latest information before you head off.

The latest information is available from the Department of Sustainability and Environment website

Drops in tourism revenue are hurting these communities so now is the time to visit these beautiful rail trails, especially with a number of long weekends coming up.

Follow the links below to learn more about the trails and make sure you use the contacts to get the latest updates on the fires.

Lilydale–Warburton Rail Trail

This trail passes through scenic landscape following the Yarra River valley. There are plenty of good places to stay and good things to consume in the region’s cafes, pubs, wineries and restaurants.

Murray to Mountains Rail Trail

The trail follows the picturesque Ovens Valley and has beautiful views of Mt Buffalo. A good climb leads to the historic town of Beechworth. Alternatively, take the downhill option!
