City bikes

City bikes are designed for travelling around town running errands and making visits. This text and picture was prepared for the chapter of the Bike Bible in which fictional commuter Jack considers the best bike for his needs

Built for commuting, city bikes come with all the accessories Jack needs for commuting fitted as standard: lights (perhaps dynamo-powered), rack for panniers, and mudguards. Moreover city bikes have durable components for year-round work and a useful range of gears for everyday commuting carrying loaded panniers.

City bikes aren’t cheap because they are good quality machines but Jack can see that with one of these he is almost instantly set up for commuting – he just has to buy panniers, a lock, a rain jacket and a helmet and he’s set.

Jack could find a city bike for $500 or spend up to $2000, depending on the quality of components on it and the accessories it comes with.
