Police hunt hoon rammers

Mornington Police are on the hunt for the driver of a car that deliberately drove into a group of 13 riders on their way to the start of Around The Bay in a Day.

Bicycle Victoria member Brenden Stevenson, of Balnarring, was one of those injured in the attack.

Police are seeking a burgundy coloured Ford Falcon of late eighties/early nineties vintage with a number plate starting with EVQ or EVK. The vehicle was seen at several locations on the Penninsula on the morning of the event.

It was noticed by a number of people because the occupants were using a loudspeaker to hurl abuse at bike riders.

Bicycle Victoria is passing on information to the Police and helping the group with legal resources and in with dealing with the media.

The incident was a frightening experience for the riders and a reminder of the worrying problem of hoon driver hostility, an all too common occurrence.

In this case the offence was a criminal one, with matching penalties for the culprit.
